Fire, Water, and Theft Protection in a Closet-Width Safe

If the open space you have is a bedroom closet or a narrow wall, the Liberty Home Advantage was shaped for it. It stands 59.5 inches tall in an 18.25 inch wide body and weighs 230 pounds, the lightest full-height safe Liberty builds. You get 60 minutes of fire protection at 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, verified in a live burn test. Liberty also rates it for up to 24 inches of water for up to 72 hours, the only published water rating in the Liberty line.

Where you put a safe matters as much as the safe itself. We plan every Home Advantage delivery around the exact closet, office, or garage wall it is headed for.

The decision underneath the spec: Home Advantage vs Home Safe

Both safes share 14 gauge steel, 60 minutes of fire protection, and Security Level 2. What separates them is shape and water. The Home Safe 12 is 42.25 inches tall and 24.25 inches wide, while the Home Advantage stands 59.5 inches tall in an 18.25 inch width and carries the water rating. Pick on the space you have and the risk you worry about most.

Buyer Profile

Where the Home Advantage Is the Right Call

The Home Advantage fits you when your contents are mostly papers and valuables and your floor space is tight. Making a list of everything you plan to store is the fastest way to confirm it.

What It Protects

Birth certificates, passports, deeds, and the rest of your paper records go on the shelves with jewelry, cash, and hard drives. Liberty rates it for up to two long guns with the standard flex shelving, and handguns in cases fit on the shelves. Why rated gun counts run higher than what fits in daily use.

Where It Fits

At 18.25 inches wide and 16 inches deep, it suits a standard reach-in closet or the narrow wall beside a desk. You need a doorway of at least 19 inches, our figure based on the safe's depth plus 3 inches of handling room. Checking the full path from your front door to the closet matters more than the closet itself.

When a Different Safe Fits Better

If long guns are the main thing you're storing, the Centurion is the Essential-level gun safe built for that job. For more than 60 minutes of fire protection, the Home SE steps up to 90 minutes and 11 gauge steel. Putting the Home Advantage, Home SE, and Centurion side by side shows where each one earns its place.

Construction Overview

Where the Home Advantage Lands in the Lineup

On the consultations where a narrow, full-height safe becomes the answer, the conversation usually starts with where it will stand. When your answer is a closet, an office corner, or a garage wall, the Home Advantage puts fire, water, and theft protection into one 18.25 inch wide body. How steel, insulation, and door seals each do a different job explains why the three cards below are separate questions.

Fire and Water

60 minutes at 1,200 degrees F · up to 24 in of water for up to 72 hours

33% of maximum rated protection scale

Liberty verified the 60-minute fire rating in a live burn test at 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, not a computer model. That puts the Home Advantage level with the Home Safe and the USA Series on fire duration. Its water rating is the one spec in this body that sets it apart from every other Liberty safe. What a 60-minute rating does and does not promise in a real fire.

Steel and Lock

14 gauge Dual Fusion steel · 3/16 in Solid State locking bars · UL listed electronic lock

Fourteen gauge is the steel thickness Liberty uses on the Home Safe and Centurion, which is why all three sit at Security Level 2. Solid State locking bars, 3/16 of an inch thick, hold the door closed against prying. You open the UL listed electronic lock with a keypad code you set and can change yourself. What a 14 gauge body will and won't stop.

Interior and Door Storage

Standard flex shelving · beige velour · door organizer with Cool Pocket

Inside, you get 56 inches of height, 14.5 inches of width, and 10 inches of depth, lined in beige velour. Standard flex shelving holds files, boxes, and binders. A door organizer with a Cool Pocket keeps small items on the back of the door, off the shelves. Laying out a narrow interior so the things you reach for most sit at eye level.

Specs on paper are half the story. The misreadings below are the ones that cause trouble after delivery.

Common Mistakes

Common Home Advantage Misconceptions

Misconception:

"A 60-minute rating means the inside stays safe for an hour in any fire."

Reality:

The rating describes one test condition: 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 minutes. Real fires vary, and a house fire can burn hotter in spots or smolder for hours after the flames die down. A wildfire can also bring heat from outside before the structure catches. Sixty minutes is a sound minimum for paper records, and the other assumptions people carry about fire ratings are worth a few minutes before you decide.

Misconception:

"Curbside delivery means the safe gets carried into my house."

Reality:

Liberty includes curbside delivery in the $1,599 MSRP. Curbside means the safe is set down at the curb or the end of your driveway, and getting it inside is up to you. Moving it in, placing it, and anchoring it is a separate paid service that our own crew performs. What sets the cost of in-home delivery comes down to stairs, distance, and the path to the closet.

Misconception:

"If the safe fits through the closet door, it will fit in the closet."

Reality:

The doorway is only one point on the route. A 59.5 inch safe has to turn the corners in your hallway, then leave room for its own door to swing open once it's in place. Our delivery team checks every turn and landing on the path before we confirm a delivery date. Measuring the whole route, not just the closet door, is the step that keeps delivery day simple.

Misconception:

"Water resistance only matters if I live near a river."

Reality:

Water reaches a safe from more places than a flood. A failed water heater, a burst supply line, or the hoses used to put out a house fire can all leave standing water on the floor. The Home Advantage's water rating is built for that kind of event, and it buys you time to get the door open and dry everything out. Weighing fire, theft, and water against each other for your home shows how much that rating should count.

Knowing where the specs stop is as useful as knowing what they cover.

Protection Reality

What Essential Protection Buys You

Essential protection is built to outlast a quick break-in and to protect paper records through a typical house fire. A burglar with a pry bar and a few minutes is the threat this level is sized for. Anchored to the floor, the Home Advantage also stops the easiest theft of all, which is carrying the whole safe out. How burglars actually attack a safe, and what slows them down.

Fire is the bigger risk across much of our service area. For most Treasure Valley homes, 60 minutes is a sound minimum for papers and keepsakes. If you live in McCall, the Wood River Valley, or along the Boise foothills where wildfire exposure can run longer, step up to the Home SE at 90 minutes or the Premium Home Safe at 2 hours.

This is where the Home Advantage stops: it is a home safe for papers and valuables, sized and priced for Essential protection. A determined attack with power tools and time is a job for heavier steel at the Balanced and Enhanced levels.

Protection Scale

How the Home Advantage Compares to What's Above and Below It

The Home Advantage sits at Essential, Security Level 2, the first of the four protection levels we use to match safes to the people buying them. What changes in construction and fire protection from one level to the next.

Maximum

The highest level, built on commercial-grade construction such as TL-30 rated safes.

Enhanced

Premium Home, Lincoln, Classic Plus, Classic Select, Magnum, Presidential. Heavier steel, longer fire ratings, and stronger door systems.

Balanced

USA Series, Home SE, Colonial, Franklin, Collector. Security Levels 3 to 5, with thicker steel bodies and stronger door construction.

Western Idaho & Eastern Oregon

Buying the Home Advantage in Caldwell

Choosing a safe for your papers and keepsakes is a bigger decision than the price suggests, because the things going inside it can't be replaced. Idaho Safe & Vault has spent 32 years helping families across Western Idaho and Eastern Oregon make that call, with 3,500-plus safes delivered and installed by our own team.

The 2024 fire season burned roughly 996,000 acres across Idaho, and the Glendale Fire put evacuation orders on the west Hailey corridor that September. If evacuation is a real possibility where you live, plan on leaving the safe behind, and buy the fire rating that matches that plan. What a local, factory-authorized dealer handles that an online order can't.

Installation and Delivery

Getting the Home Advantage Into Your Home

At 230 pounds, with a 19 inch doorway by our calculation, the Home Advantage is one of the easier safes we deliver. About three out of four safes we install go into a garage, and this one is just as comfortable in an upstairs bedroom closet. Choosing between the garage, a closet, and an office comes down to visibility, access, and anchoring options.

You can move a 230-pound safe yourself with a rated appliance dolly and a strong helper, and we'll tell you that plainly. Stairs, tight turns, and anchoring into a concrete slab are where a professional crew earns its fee. Deciding between doing it yourself and having us do it starts with the path and the floor. Our in-home delivery and anchoring is a paid service, and Jason or Merlin leads our delivery crews.

We recommend anchoring on almost every install, and with a lighter safe it matters more, not less. Call (208) 445-7233 before you order if the safe is headed upstairs in an older home or anywhere the route is unusual. What our delivery and installation process covers, start to finish.

Caldwell Showroom

Come See the Home Advantage Before You Decide

Our showroom keeps the full Liberty lineup on the floor, approximately 40 safes on display. Call ahead, and we'll confirm the Home Advantage is set up the day you visit. Seeing it beside the Home Safe and Home SE settles the shape-versus-steel question faster than any spec sheet.

"You can't judge a safe by specs alone. Steel thickness, door feel, bolt count: you have to see it in person to understand what those numbers actually mean."

Decision Guide

Should You Buy the Home Advantage?

The Home Advantage Is Right If:

  • Your safe is going into a closet, an office corner, or a narrow wall, and width is the tight dimension.
  • Papers, valuables, and handguns are the main contents, with a long gun as an occasional extra.
  • You want fire and water protection in one body at the Essential price point.

Step Up to the Home SE or Premium Home Safe If:

  • You want more than 60 minutes of fire protection or a body heavier than 14 gauge steel.

Consider the Centurion If:

  • Long guns are the main thing you're storing, since the Home Advantage holds up to two.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much water can the Liberty Home Advantage handle?

The Liberty Home Advantage can handle up to 24 inches of standing water for up to 72 hours. That covers a burst supply line, a failed water heater, or the hoses used on a house fire. When we place one in a garage, we still keep it off the low spots where water collects.

Do the shelves change how many guns fit in the Home Advantage?

Yes. Liberty rates it for up to 2 long guns with the standard flex shelving in place, and every shelf you add takes height away from a rifle or shotgun. In our showroom conversations, we suggest planning around papers and handguns first, with a long gun as the extra.

Can you get the Home Advantage with a dial lock instead of a keypad?

The Home Advantage comes with one lock: a UL listed electronic lock with a keypad. That gives you fast entry and code changes without calling a locksmith. We service and replace safe locks ourselves, so if your keypad ever acts up, the same team that delivered your safe can diagnose it. Ask us which Liberty models offer a mechanical dial.

How do you keep a water-resistant safe from getting damp inside?

Use a rechargeable desiccant and check it every few months. The door seal that keeps water out also holds moisture in, so humidity from papers, leather, or a damp day can build up. We recommend opening the door for a few minutes once a month and replacing the keypad battery at the first low-battery warning.

Is 230 pounds heavy enough to keep the Home Advantage from being carried off?

Not on its own. A safe that isn't anchored is a safe a thief can walk out with if he has a hand truck and 45 seconds. That's why we recommend anchoring on almost every install. Our crew handles it for customers who want it, and the light weight means you could also move it yourself with a helper.
