What Your Safe Warranty Actually CoversLiberty, Browning & AMSEC
Every brand we carry backs their safes with a warranty. Here's what that means in plain terms, what the exceptions are, and how we help you use it if something ever goes wrong.
Most buyers assume a lifetime warranty covers everything. The reality is more specific — and more useful to understand before you need to make a claim. Fire damage, break-in damage, defective locks, flood, and the contents inside your safe all have different answers depending on the brand and the situation.
Here's how Liberty, Browning, and AMSEC handle it — and where we fit into the process.
Covered for Life on the Body. The Rest Has Rules.
All three brands we carry offer some form of lifetime coverage on the safe body for qualifying products. Liberty, Browning, and AMSEC each handle the details differently, and each has exceptions worth knowing before you need to file a claim. Fire and break-in damage are covered across all three. The lock, safe contents, and flood damage are handled separately, or not at all.
Fire and break-in covered. Contents not covered. Flood not covered. Locks have separate (shorter) warranty terms. All three brands pay shipping both ways when a claim is approved.
The sections below break each brand's warranty down by coverage area. If you bought a safe from us and need to make a claim, call us first — we handle warranty coordination with all three manufacturers on your behalf.

Liberty Safe Warranty
Liberty's warranty runs in three layers. Each covers a different part of the safe under different terms: the body is lifetime, the lock and painted surface are 5 years, and electrical components are 1 year.
A lifetime warranty tied to the original purchaser. Liberty repairs or replaces any safe that fails due to defects in materials or workmanship. If fire or break-in damage occurs, Liberty steps in when your homeowner's insurance won't cover it — in the US and Canada, paying for repair or replacement, shipping both ways, and installation of the replacement.
Locks and painted surfaces carry a 5-year warranty covering defects in workmanship and materials. Liberty covers repair or parts within that window at no cost to you. The lock warranty doesn't share the lifetime term of the body.
Light fixtures, cords, transformers, and light switches carry a 1-year warranty from the date of purchase.
How to File a Fire or Break-In Claim
Two documents are required to file a fire or break-in claim:
- A report from the police or fire department
- A copy of your homeowner's insurance statement showing what it will or won't cover
Dealer note: We help customers through this process. If your safe was purchased through us, contact us first. We can pull purchase records, sort out what documentation is needed, and initiate contact with Liberty's warranty department on your behalf.
What Liberty's Warranty Does NOT Cover
- Contents of the safe (no Liberty warranty covers contents)
- Misuse, neglect, or improper installation
- Extreme conditions or environments
- Normal wear and tear
- Safes modified in ways that affect their intended use
- Flood damage
Registration Requirement
Online registration is required within 30 days of purchase. Liberty voids the warranty if the product isn't registered. Have the serial number and purchase date ready. If you bought from us and can't locate your registration info, call us.
Transferability
Liberty's limited lifetime warranty can transfer to a new owner, but it isn't automatic. The new owner contacts Liberty to request the transfer in writing. Liberty can deny the request.
Extended Lock Warranty (Optional)
If your safe was purchased within the last 12 months and manufactured within the last 24 months, you can extend the lock warranty past the standard 5-year term:
Browning Safe Warranty
Browning covers all gun safe models for life, with one exception: combination (dial) locks carry a 5-year warranty rather than a lifetime term. Electronic locks also carry 5 years. Browning pays shipping to and from the factory when a claim is approved.
- Safe body: Lifetime on all models
- Fire damage: Covered
- Break-in or attempted entry: Covered
- Defective lock — locksmith cost to open: Covered
- Opening or drilling if the lock fails: Covered
- Shipping to factory and back: Browning pays
- Transferable to new owner: Yes
- Flood damage
- Contents of the safe
- Damage from misuse, negligence, or improper installation
- Combination locks (5-year warranty, not lifetime)
Lock Warranty Duration
Mechanical (combination dial) locks: 5 years · Electronic locks: 5 years.
Both Liberty and Browning treat the lock the same way: lifetime on the body, 5 years on the lock mechanism.

AMSEC Warranty
AMSEC's warranty is tiered by product type. Shorter safes start with a 1-year standard term. Taller gun safes and specific fire-rated models qualify for lifetime coverage. All warranty service, regardless of tier, requires authorization from AMSEC before any work starts.
| AMSEC Product Category | Warranty Duration |
|---|---|
| All safes and related components | 1 Year Parts and Labor |
| Factory-installed electronic locks | 1 Year Parts and Labor |
| Electronic lock retrofit kits | 1 Year Parts only |
| Field service installations and repairs | 90 Days Labor |
| BFX, BFII, RF gun safes w/ factory AMSEC lock | 5 Years Parts and Labor (extended) |
| UL Listed Fire Safes (BF, UL, FS lines) | Lifetime — free replacement if fire-damaged |
| Super Brute Floor Safes | Lifetime — free replacement if forcible entry |
| Gun safes 55" and taller | Lifetime — fire damage or forcible entry |
Key AMSEC Coverage Conditions
- Original purchaser only — AMSEC's warranty is not transferable to a new owner
- Residential use only — using a residential safe model in a commercial setting voids the warranty
- Authorized service only — repair or attempted repair by anyone other than a pre-authorized AMSEC service dealer voids the warranty
- Do not alter the serial number or change the combination lock without factory authorization
- Normal wear, battery replacement, and routine maintenance are excluded
- Shipment damage is not covered
How to File an AMSEC Warranty Claim
All AMSEC warranty service requires prior authorization before any work begins. Call the AMSEC Service Department at 951-685-9680. Have these ready when you call:
- Product description
- Serial number
- Description of the problem
- Proof of purchase
Dealer note: We handle warranty authorization calls with AMSEC for customers who purchased through us. Do not attempt repairs or contact an outside locksmith before calling us — unauthorized service voids the AMSEC warranty. Contact us first.
How We Help With Warranty Claims
Buying from a local dealer changes what happens when something goes wrong. We know these warranties from the inside — we've processed claims with Liberty, Browning, and AMSEC, we know which documentation each manufacturer requires, and we know how to present a claim so it moves forward rather than stalls.
For safes purchased through us: contact us first. We'll help you identify which warranty tier applies, pull your purchase records, and initiate contact with the manufacturer on your behalf. Most customers never need to call the manufacturer directly.
For safes we didn't sell but need service: we can often help with the service side. The warranty claim goes through whoever sold it to you, but if the safe needs work done in the field — a lockout, a combination change, a mechanical issue — we can handle that.
A manufacturer warranty claim is only as smooth as the person who files it. We know the process, we have the relationships, and we're a phone call away — not a hold queue.
Warranty Questions, Answered
Q1Does my safe warranty cover the contents inside the safe?
No. Liberty, Browning, and AMSEC do not cover the contents of the safe under any warranty. Your homeowner's or renter's insurance is the right vehicle for protecting what's inside — some policies include scheduled coverage for specific valuables like firearms, jewelry, or documents. Your insurance agent can tell you what your current policy covers.
Q2What do I need to register my Liberty Safe warranty?
Liberty requires online registration within 30 days of purchase. Missing that window voids the warranty. Have your serial number and purchase date ready. If you bought from us and can't locate your registration information, call us and we'll help you find it.
Q3Is my safe warranty transferable if I sell the safe?
It depends on the brand. Liberty's warranty transfers with written consent from Liberty — not automatic, but available on request. Browning's warranty is transferable. AMSEC's standard warranty is limited to the original purchaser and does not transfer. If you're buying or selling a used safe, check the warranty status before the transaction.
Q4Does the warranty cover flood damage?
No. None of the three brands — Liberty, Browning, or AMSEC — cover flood damage under their standard warranty. If flood coverage matters for your situation, your homeowner's insurance policy is the right place to look. Fire-rated safes are designed to resist heat, not water submersion.
Q5What do I need to file a fire or break-in claim with Liberty?
You'll need a police or fire department report and a copy of your homeowner's insurance statement of coverage. Liberty requires both documents and the claim must be filed within 6 months of the incident. Call Liberty at 800-247-5625, or call us first and we'll walk through it with you.
Q6Does AMSEC cover the same safes under their lifetime warranty?
No — AMSEC's lifetime coverage applies to specific product categories: UL Listed Fire Safes, Super Brute Floor Safes, and gun safes 55 inches or taller. Shorter gun safe models fall under the 5-year extended coverage (if they include a factory-installed AMSEC lock) or the 1-year standard warranty. If you're not sure which tier your safe falls under, call us or check your purchase documentation.
Q7Can I extend my Liberty lock warranty after purchase?
Yes, if your safe was purchased within the last 12 months and manufactured within the last 24 months. You can add 10 years for $99 (bringing total lock coverage to 15 years) or get a lifetime lock warranty for $159. The extended warranty also covers a certified locksmith to regain access if the lock fails. The safe must be registered to qualify.
