A heating rod running at 100 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit warms the air immediately around it. That warm air expands, rises, and pushes colder, moisture-laden air near the safe floor out through the small gaps around the door seal. The result is a continuous exchange that keeps relative humidity lower inside than out.

Mount the rod horizontally along the bottom of the safe for best circulation. Mounting brackets are included. The power cord has a removable plug, which lets you route the cord through a small drilled hole and reattach the plug outside the safe wall without needing to widen the hole for the connector head.

12 Inch

Mid-size gun safes in average humidity climates. The right starting point for most buyers in the interior West and Mountain states.

18 Inch

Larger safes, high-humidity climates, basements, and garages. Also the right upgrade if the 12-inch rod isn't moving the needle after a few weeks.

Power Requirement

The dry rod requires a 110V outlet inside your safe. Liberty's Franklin series and above come with the outlet kit factory-installed. If your safe does not have interior power, add the Liberty Electrical Outlet Kit before ordering this rod.

Installation

Mount the rod horizontally at the bottom of your safe using the included brackets. Horizontal placement at floor level gives the convection cycle the most room to work, pulling cold air down through the rod and sending warm air upward through the safe interior.

To route the cord through a small hole in the safe wall, remove the plug, feed the cord through, then reattach the plug on the outside. This keeps the hole size manageable and the interior tidy.

Expect gradual results: Humidity reduction takes time. If you do not see a measurable drop after a few weeks, the 12-inch rod may be undersized for your safe or climate. Upgrade to the 18-inch rod or consider the PEET Air-Circulating Dehumidifier for more active moisture control.

How long does it take for the dry rod to reduce humidity?

Reduction is gradual and depends on your safe size, how often you open the door, and your local climate. Most buyers start seeing measurable improvement within one to three weeks. If the reading on your humidity monitor has not moved after a few weeks, the 12-inch rod may be undersized. Step up to the 18-inch or consider the PEET dehumidifier.

Do I need the Liberty Outlet Kit to use this?

Yes, if your safe does not have interior power. The dry rod requires a live 110V outlet inside the safe. Franklin series and higher Liberty models include the outlet kit from the factory. Centurion, USA, Colonial, and similar entry-level models do not. Add the outlet kit to your order if your safe is in that range.

What is the difference between the dry rod and the PEET dehumidifier?

Both run continuously on 110V power and use heat-driven convection. The dry rod is a low-profile heating element that mounts along the safe wall and relies on the safe's natural air gaps to push moist air out. The PEET is a self-contained unit that actively circulates air internally. The PEET costs more but tends to stabilize humidity faster, especially in larger safes and wetter climates. The dry rod is a solid, lower-cost solution for average conditions.
